$4K: Not a "LOTR" fan. I had it between hobbit and elf, but I would've needed help from the very pop-culture-friendly NY audience.

4K: I am not a Rings fan, but I know enough people who are. And even if you aren't a fan & didn't know fans of the books back in the day, its kind of hard to miss the movie clips with all those tall, elegant/ethereal elves in them. OK, maybe its hard to tell from a movie clip that they're supposed to be elves. Its not hard in the book.
And if you've read countless other recent fantasy books with tall, elegant/ethereal elves in them, ditto.
Otherwise, going by a Disney/Tinkerbell image of the fairies, its easy to see how the contestant went wrong, even though they did know "hobbits are small".
